No option but to ally with TDP, Pawan tells BJP

Jana Sena Party chief and Power Star Pawan Kalyan is learned to have told the Bharatiya Janata Party high command that there is no other option for the party than to join hands with the Telugu Desam Party in the upcoming assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Pawan, along with his party’s Political Affairs Committee chairman Nadendla Manohar, held a detailed discussion with BJP National President J P Nadda in New Delhi on Tuesday night.

He made it clear that the only way to pull down the YSR Congress party from power is to have an alliance with the TDP.

The Jana Sena Party chief reportedly told Nadda and others that, in the given circumstances, the TDP has been gaining strength across the state, and the Jana Sena Party has also gained a lot of support in several pockets.

“On the other hand, the BJP's graph has been going down because of its soft approach towards the YSRCP. The only way the BJP can regain some hold in the state is to put up a joint fight against the YSRCP government, along with the TDP and Jana Sena,” Pawan reportedly told the BJP leadership.

When the BJP was in alliance with the TDP, it had won a good number of MLA seats, besides a couple of MP seats.

“Now, the BJP cannot have an alliance with the YSRCP, which wants to go alone and target 175 assembly seats. It has no strength to fight on its own. It can win at least a few MLA seats if it joins hands with the TDP and the Jana Sena,” the Power Star reportedly told the top leaders.

According to an analyst, though the TDP is still an unreliable partner because of past experience, the Jana Sena chief is of the view that once bitten, twice shy. TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu would not dare to antagonize the BJP again.

“His primary objective is to defeat Jagan. For that, he can go to any extent. In the present circumstances, he won’t dare to meddle with national politics. Moreover, he is also in a compromising mood. Even if the BJP doesn’t ally with the TDP, he would be happy if it doesn’t support the YSRCP directly or indirectly,” the analyst said.
