The Andhra Pradesh state election commission (SEC) on Tuesday rejected the allegations of the Telugu Desam Party that there were large scale malpractices in the municipal elections in Kuppam in Chittoor district, polling for which was held on Monday.
The SEC said as per the reports of the Collectors & District Election Authorities, SPs and the Election Observers, the poll was conducted peacefully barring few minor incidents outside the polling stations in Kuppam Municipality.
“The Superintendent of Police, Chittoor was also stationed at Kuppam during the poll process who closely monitored the law and order situation. Persons appointed as Polling Agents by various parties were also present and the same was acknowledged by the Election Observers during their visits to polling stations,” the SEC said.
It further said no reports of untoward incidents were reported by the Collectors & DEAs and SPs/CPs in any other municipality or corporation and no requests for re-poll were received.
“Complaints which were received by the Commission were referred to the concerned Collectors and District Election Authorities and Superintendents and Commissioners of Police and they were acted upon promptly besides sending timely reports to the Commission,” the SEC said in a statement.
