There is no possibility of any investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), at least for another six weeks. into the alleged torture of rebel YSR Congress party MP from Narasapuram Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department police.
Acting on a petition filed by Raju’s son K Bharat, seeking a CBI probe into the alleged custodial torture of his father by the CID police, the Supreme Court posted the case to a later date, giving six weeks’ time to the Central government and the CBI.
Interestingly, the Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Vineet Saran, removed the state government, chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and the CID from the list of respondents. The court refused to listen to the objections raised by the state government’s counsel Dushyant Dave.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi proposed to delete the state government, Jagan and the CID from the respondent’s list and implead the CBI. He said he had a right to add and remove the parties at his own risk.
Dave wondered how the Andhra Pradesh cannot be a party in the case.
“Why is Supreme Court being used like this? These proceedings amuse me,” he said.
However, the judge said he would not like to make any comment on the issue at this stage and the case was being posted after six weeks.
