State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar had suspended the unanimous election of a ward in Tirupati Municipal Corporation.
The SEC issued orders on Thursday suspended the unanimous election pending further decision.
The SEC had also announced that the commission would enquire into the election malpractices alleged in this ward.
The SEC had received a complaint from TDP candidate M Vijayalakshmi from Ward No. 7 of Tirupati Municipal Corporation.
She said that her signature was forged by her rivals to withdraw the nomination and made an appeal to the SEC to restore her nomination.
The SEC said that there was prima facie evidence for further investigation into the allegation.
The SEC had also asked the local returning officer to submit all the records relating to the election process in the division.
Interestingly, it was on the other day, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu planned a protest in Tirupati city against the alleged malpractices.
Though Naidu was detained in the Renigunta airport and later sent back to Hyderabad, the TDP chief alleged that the ruling YSR Congress leaders were resorting to all types of malpractices including forgery.
It is to be seen what the SEC would do in this case.
