Nimmagadda Releases Notification Subject To SC Order

State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar on Saturday, released the Panchayat Election notification.

However, he said that the notification is subject to the outcome of the Supreme Court, which is hearing the State government’s argument against holding elections.

The elections go as per schedule and Nimmagadda had asked the state government to comply with the election code of conduct and the rules.

More than releasing the notification, Nimmagadda dedicated the press conference to teach some constitutional lessons to the state government, mostly directed to chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Nimmagadda insisted that elections to the local bodies should be held as per schedule and claimed it as constitutional obligation of the government. But, he was silent on who stopped him from fulfilling this constitutional obligation in 2020.

The SEC also said that Covid 19 is not dangerous now and there were elections held and being held elsewhere in the country. But, he was conspicuously silent on why did he postpone the elections on covid 19 excuse, where there was no actual threat in March 2020.

The SEC said that personal interests are not important in holding the elections. If so, why is he not taking into consideration the objections of the employees to be exposed to the public and exposed to Covid 19.

He had set aside every point raised by the state government in the process and still claims that he was duly following the court directions.

The court had asked the SEC and the government to work together. But, he wants the government to work as he decides, as the chief secretary Adityanadh Das said in one of his letters to the SEC.
