New SC bench to hear Jagan bail cancellation plea

New SC bench to hear Jagan bail cancellation plea

For the second time, the Supreme Court on Monday transferred the hearing of the petition filed by Andhra Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, seeking the cancellation of bail granted to YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Originally assigned to the bench of Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Pankaj Mittal, the case has now been transferred to Justice B. V. Nagaratna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma.

The Supreme Court registry issued the transfer order based on the directive of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna.

The petition, filed by Raju, challenges Jagan’s bail in connection with an alleged illegal assets case. It also requests the relocation of further court proceedings from Hyderabad, citing concerns over impartiality.

Raju has accused Jagan of violating his bail conditions, particularly regarding activities related to Bharati Cements and Saraswati Power properties.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had attached these assets in 2016 as part of its investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

Recent reports indicate that these attached assets were transferred in 2019.

While Jagan and his sister, Y. S. Sharmila, have maintained that the transactions were conducted within legal parameters, Raju contends that they constitute a breach of Jagan's bail conditions.

The case has once again brought Jagan’s legal standing under scrutiny, with the possibility of serious consequences, including arrest, if the court finds evidence of a bail violation.
