Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu seems to have realized that he might have to be out of power in the state after May 23 when the assembly election results are announced, though he is putting up a brave front.
He has been so much used to enjoying power that it might be difficult for him to be out of the hot seat for at least next five years.
And he will not get a chance to enter the secretariat complex again from where he had been wielding power all these years.
So, Naidu has thought of enjoying the official atmosphere in the secretariat at Velagapudi as long as possible till May 23.
Though he has no other work to do in Secretariat as he cannot conduct official review meetings due to model code of conduct, he has decided to spend as much time as possible in his official chambers.
On Thursday, Naidu came to the Secretariat and spent time in his chambers from 10.30 to 5 pm like a regular government employee. Since he cannot conduct any official meetings, he was largely free.
Except the regular staff in the CM’s peshi and his personal secretaries, there was none to meet him because of election code.
Naidu wrote to the Election Commission to relax the election code in the north coastal districts which are expected to witness damage due to Cyclone Fani, so that he could spend time in the Secretariat with official meetings, but there was no response from the EC.
He was not expected to meet even his party leaders in the CM’s chamber as it is against the election code. So, the chief minister had to just while away his time in his chambers, watching television.
“Let him feel the last days of power in his chambers, though he actually does not have any powers as the chief minister,” a YSRC leader said.
