A report coming from Anantapur that senior Telugu Desam Party leader Payyavula Kesav is most likely to win the elections from Uravakonda assembly constituency is understood to have caused a lot of worry for party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
For, there is a strong sentiment attached to Uravakonda constituency. Whoever wins from this seat will have to sit in the opposition, as his party does not come to power in the state.
Like film industry, politics is also full of sentiments and therefore, anybody who contests the elections from Uravakonda s constituency on a party ticket will turn out to be a bad omen for the party.
So, when the reports indicated that Payyavula Kesav is going to win the Uravakonda seat, it has started creating tension in the TDP.
Kesav represented the constituency twice in the past – 2004 and 2009, but on both the occasions, the TDP lost the power. In 1999 elections, he contested for the first time but lost the elections and the TDP came to power.
In 2014, he lost the elections again in the hands of YSRC candidate Vishweshwar Reddy and the TDP won the assembly elections, while YSRC had to sit in the opposition. So, the sentiment continues to haunt the political parties.
In any case, Kesav always excelled while he was in the opposition and even if Naidu loses the assembly elections, Kesav will be an asset to the party in the assembly. That way, it is a consolation for Naidu!
