TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday asked chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to lead agitation against privatisation of Visakha Steel Plant.
He said his party elected representatives (MPs, MLAs and MLCs) are ready for resignation if required and support the movement if Jagan Mohan Reddy leads it.
Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to the agitating trade union leaders of the steel plant extending TDP’s support to them.
He said that the steel plant was established with the sacrifice of 32 people across the two Telugu states.
The steel plant was dedicated to the nation in 1992, he said and added that the Central government in the year 2000 had proposed to privatise the steel plant for just Rs 4,000 crore.
However, the privatisation plans were then dropped on his intervention as chief minister.
The Central government had given a special financial package of Rs 1,333 crore for strengthening of the steel plant.
However, the Central government had once again taken up the plant for privatisation, Chandrababu Naidu said.
The former chief minister wanted his successor Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to lead the agitation and promised to stand by him.
He emphasised the need to put up a united fight to stop privatisation of the steel plant and asserted that chief minister should lead the movement.
