Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who came to power in the recent assembly elections by promising Super Six guarantees to the people, is now facing an uphill task in implementing the same.
Apparently, Naidu wants to go slow on the implementation of at least some of the schemes that would cause heavy burden on the state exchequer. The state cabinet which is expected to meet shortly will come out with a decision in this regard.
But the chief minister appears to be slowly preparing the people mentally that they would have to wait for some more time for getting the benefits of welfare schemes, on the pretext that the financial position of the state is pretty bad.
Addressing a public gathering at Srisailam on Thursday, Naidu made it clear that it might be difficult for him to implement the promises made in the manifesto.
“It is true that I have given you so many promises and you all voted for us. I know I have to implement them, but what to do? The state exchequer is empty,” he said.
The chief minister said the previous rulers had destroyed the state like wild pigs and created a havoc with the state finances.
“It might take five to 10 years for me to bring the state back on tracks and restore the glory of the state,” he said.
However, Naidu said, he had the willpower to do good for the state.
“Me, deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have a strong commitment to develop the state and extend welfare to the people. I hope you will understand us,” he said.
The chief minister assured that there was no need for the people to worry about the welfare or the development.
“We shall make Andhra Pradesh No. 1 state in the coming years and there is no doubt about it,” he asserted.
