Naidu to file contempt case against Jagan?

The announcement made by YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy from the dais of Global Investors Summit held at Visakhapatnam that the port city is going to be the executive capital soon has not gone down well naturally with the Telugu Desam Party.

TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said Jagan’s announcement amounted to contempt of court, as the case is pending hearing in the Supreme Court.

“How can Jagan declare Visakhapatnam as the capital, when the issue is still in the Supreme Court?” he asked.

He said the TDP was contemplating filing a contempt of court case against the chief minister and his government.

“We shall consult our legal experts and take a call on filing the case against Jagan,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Union secretary and retired IAS officer EAS Sarma found fault with Jagan for holding the Global Investors Summit in Visakhapatnam when the elections to the state legislative assembly are under way.

He urged the Election Commission of India to initiate proceedings against the ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh for violation of model code of conduct (MCC).

In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar here on Friday, he noted that the MLC elections in the state are scheduled to take place shortly and the relevant notification was issued last month. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) had come into force since then.

“Right now, in violation of the MCC, the ruling party here is engaged in a “Global Investment Summit” which has drastically disturbed the level playing ground in the electoral process in favour of the ruling party,” he pointed out.

He requested the Commission to initiate proceedings against the ruling political party urgently to instill confidence of the electorate in the integrity of the election process.
