Naidu to continue name-changing spree!

The National Democratic Alliance government in Andhra Pradesh led by Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been on name-changing mission – renaming all those who were named after his predecessor and YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

Right from the name of the state health university, Naidu has been replacing the names of several schemes, projects and offices named after Jagan and YSR.

He is also removing the pictures of Jagan on various documents including pattadar passbooks, text books and notebooks, besides erasing the YSRCP colours from all buildings.

The latest decision of Naidu, according to reports, is to rename the grama and ward secretariats by revamping their functioning.

Sources said the “sachivalayams” (secretariats) would be renamed as “grama/ward samkshema karyalayams” (village/ward welfare offices).

They would be headed by social welfare department assistants, who would be designated as district development officers. They would be entrusted with the task of identifying beneficiaries of various schemes and prepare their lists.

The newly renamed offices would come into effect from October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti). Each village welfare office will have five staff members and they would take care of the beneficiaries.

The government would also prepare a job chart for all these welfare office staff members. It remains to be seen what the fate of village/ward volunteers would be. There is no clarity from the government on them so far.
