TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is all set to cash in on the peoples’ sentiment connected with the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
As the steel plant was the result of a greater movement in late 1960s and early 1970s, in which 32 persons have sacrificed their lives, the TDP chief is planning to use the sentiment to revive his party.
Chandrababu Naidu had already extended support to TDP activist Palla Srinivasa Rao’s indefinite hunger strike in Visakhapatnam.
The TDP chief had also given a call to the rank and file of the party to hold state-wide protests on February 18.
Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh are alleging that chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had compromised with the BJP leadership on the disinvestment in the steel plant only to save his skin from the CBI and ED cases.
The TDP chief set his eyes on the steel plant sentiments only after his MLA and former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao had sent his resignation to the Assembly in speaker format.
Though the letter is now with the steel plant employees’ unions, Ganta is already leading a movement in Visakhapatnam, which Chandrababu Naidu wants to champion.
It is to be seen whether the TDP chief could take over the movement and revive his party or prove it again as a futile attempt like the Amaravati movement.
