Naidu to boycott assembly, says he'll return only as CM

Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday took a sensational decision not to enter the state assembly again for the rest of the present term.

Expressing serious resentment over the alleged abusive comments made by the YSR Congress party members against him and his wife on the floor of the House, Naidu said he had enough of the humiliation from the ruling party.

“I will not attend this assembly hereafter. I will return to the House only after becoming the chief minister again,” Naidu said, before walking out of the House, after saluting all the members with folded hands.

The TDP president is learnt to have broken into tears at the legislature party meeting later. He told them that in his long political career, he was only bothered about his prestige and the prestige of the august house.

“But the present assembly is like a Kaurava Sabha, where the ruling party is resorting to unruly activities to run down the opposition. I have never witnessed such a behaviour in the House. I have been bearing all the insults in the last two and a half years. I cannot bear it again and again,” Naidu told them.

The trouble began with the TDP members making running commentary when YSRC member Ambati Rambabu was speaking on the women empowerment. It led to war of words between the two sides and Ambati reportedly made some nasty comments against Naidu’s wife.

The TDP members stormed the podium and demanded that Ambati take back his words and apologised to Naidu. In support of Ambati, ministers Balineni Srinivasa Reddy and Kodali Nani also rushed to the podium, entering into a clash with the TDP members.

Amidst pandemonium, Naidu said and made the announcement of his permanent boycott of the present assembly session.
