Remember how YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy used to call it a “god’s script” whenever he was referring to the poor show of the Telugu Desam Party in 2019 general elections.
Jagan would point out that the TDP could get only 23 assembly seats in the 2019 assembly elections, because N Chandrababu Naidu had engineered the defection of 23 MLAs from YSRCP to the TDP.
Even in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, three YSRCP MPs defected to the TDP and hence, that party got only three MP seats.
“This is called God’s Script. He will decide the fate of the person as per his entitlement,” he used to say.
But in 2024, it was a complete reversal of fortunes for both the parties.
While the TDP and its alliance partners got 164 out of 175 assembly seats, Jagan’s YSRCP ended up with just 11 assembly seats. Now, it is the turn of Naidu to counter and repeat the same dialogue.
On Thursday, Naidu went round Amaravati capital region, which was abandoned completely by Jagan Mohan Reddy in the last five years. He recalled how Jagan had harassed the farmers of Amaravati who waged a relentless battle in support of the capital.
“The farmers had conducted dharnas for 1631 days, besides waging a protracted legal battle. Amaravati is a holy place and it has cursed Jagan. While farmers agitated for 1631 days, Jagan got exactly 11 seats,” he said, indicating that the digits of 1631 add up to give the figure 11.
“That is the god’s script,” Naidu said, amidst thunderous applause from Amaravati farmers. He said AP stands for Amaravati and Polavaram and the present government would complete both the projects.
