If the reports coming from New Delhi are to be believed, the present Telugu Desam Party-led National Democratic Alliance government in Andhra Pradesh headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu will continue only for another three years.
According to these reports, the Narendra Modi government at the Centre has almost finalised the one-nation-one-poll plan, as recommended by the Ramnath Kovind Committee recently.
The draft proposal is expected to be ratified by the Union cabinet shortly and it would then go to the law department for being made into a legislation.
“In all probability, it will be introduced in the winter session of Parliament; or if necessary, an exclusive parliament session would be convened to discuss the same and pass a Constitutional amendment bill,” sources said.
Once the bill is passed by parliament, the Centre will set in motion the exercise for holding simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and the state assemblies all over the country in one go.
“In all probability, these simultaneous elections will be held in November or December of 2027,” sources said.
This would mean, Naidu will have just three years to be in power and implement the promises he had made before the recent elections. He also has the task of taking up the gigantic projects of Amaravati capital city and Polavaram multi-purpose project.
For the opposition YSR Congress party, too, it is going to be a tough task, as there should be a massive anti-incumbency against the Naidu government in the next three years so that it would help Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy bounce back.
Moreover, the simultaneous polls are generally believed to advantageous for the ruling party at the Centre. Since Naidu is in alliance with the BJP at present, he would might not face much difficulty, unless he makes big blunders and snaps ties with the BJP again, sources added.
