The Andhra Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday reclaimed assigned lands from Saraswati Power Industries Private Limited, owned by YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
A total of 17.69 acres of land—comprising 3.80 acres in Vemavaram village of Machavaram Mandal and 3.89 acres in Pinnelli village of Palnadu district—were taken back by the government. The local Tahsildar issued orders to repossess these lands.
This action followed a personal inspection of the Saraswati Power Industries' lands conducted by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on November 4.
Subsequently, revenue authorities issued a notice to the company, questioning why the government should not reclaim the assigned lands.
During his visit, Pawan Kalyan announced an investigation into the land acquisition and water allocation for the project.
"We are here to provide reassurance and support to farmers who gave their lands. This field inspection aims to assess the situation directly," Pawan stated.
The project was initiated during the tenure of the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The total land acquisition included 1,083.715 acres of patta land, 76.19 acres of dotted land, and 24.84 acres of assigned land.
The breakdown of the acquired lands includes 272.96 acres in Chennayapalem, 93.79 acres in Pinnelli, 710.63 acres in Vemavaram, and 107.365 acres in Thangeda.
The Deputy Chief Minister also ordered an investigation into the alleged unauthorized acquisition of an additional 350 acres of land and 400 acres of forest land beyond the project's original allocation.
