In a sudden and swift development, Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday got a call from the Bharatiya Janata Party top leadership, asking him to come to Delhi on Wednesday.
The development comes at a time when there were doubts over the BJP joining the alliance of TDP and Jana Sena Party headed by power star Pawan Kalyan for the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu will fly down to New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon and would meet BJP national president J P Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah in the evening. If necessary, Pawan Kalyan might also join the talks, sources said.
It is learnt the BJP national leaders had a preliminary round of talks with Naidu over phone on Tuesday morning. It is not immediately known whether the talks ended up in a positive note or there were any doubts.
But Naidu going to Delhi to meet the top BJP leaders is considered to be a step in the direction of the BJP joining the TDP-Jana Sena Party alliance.
A clarity would emerge by Wednesday night and if everything works out, the seat sharing talks would conclude by this week end, sources said.
In all probability, there would be an announcement on the alliance among the three parties or only two parties by February 14 or 15.
One wonders whether the TDP would get any benefit if the BJP joins the alliance, as it would distance minorities from the party.
But another analyst said irrespective of the TDP joins hands with BJP or not, the minorities would anyway not vote for the TDP; as they are happy with Jagan.
