Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday demanded that the state election commission cancelled the process of local body elections held in March this year and announce fresh schedule for the same.
In a statement, Naidu demanded that the entire process of conducting local body elections be started afresh in the wake of largescale irregularities committed by the ruling YSR Congress party leaders at that time.
He requested that there should be a level-playing field for all the political parties concerned.
Alleging that the YSRC had resorted to threats, intimidation and forcible withdrawal of nominations by the rival parties, the TDP chief demanded that the SEC must accept online nomination of the contesting candidates as a precaution against forcible withdrawals and tearing of nomination papers.
The elections should be held amid security provided by the Central forces. All necessary safeguards should be taken to ensure a free and fair election in the best interests of the voters.
