Even as the Andhra Pradesh police continue to investigate the complaint lodged by Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani, alleging that she was abducted and falsely accused in a case by top police officers during the previous YSR Congress Party regime in February, TDP president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu quickly came to her defense.
Jethwani lodged an online complaint with the Andhra Pradesh police on Thursday, and she, along with her family members and lawyers, came to Vijayawada on Friday to appear before NTR District Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, who recorded her statement in the presence of her lawyers.
The police commissioner has already appointed an officer of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank, Sravanthi Roy, as a special officer to probe the alleged harassment of the actress and her family members.
According to an official statement, Naidu took serious note of the complaint lodged by Jethwani, stating that she was abducted by the Andhra police on February 2 in Mumbai and was brought to Vijayawada, where she was subjected to harassment at the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station guesthouse for two days.
“The police officers, at the behest of the YSRCP leaders, foisted false cases against her, alleging that she had forged documents pertaining to a property. In fact, the police themselves had forged her signatures on the documents and registered cases against her,” the Chief Minister said.
Stating that Jethwani had come to Vijayawada seeking justice, Naidu said his government would definitely render justice to her and ensure that the accused, regardless of their stature, would be punished.
