Naidu convinces Amaravati farmers to give more land

Naidu convinces Amaravati farmers to give more land

It appears the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government led by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is all set to acquire at least another 30,000 acres of land from the farmers in the surrounding villages of Amaravati.

On Monday, Naidu held a meeting with Amaravati farmers and explained to them the future plans of the government. He told them why Amaravati needs more land from the villages adjacent to the capital city.

“The capital city requires an international airport once it grows into a huge metropolitan city. Investors from across the world will be landing here to set up their offices and companies. The connectivity is more important for any capital city,” he said, adding that the capital therefore requires more land.

He said the land would be acquired from the villages adjacent to the capital under the land pooling system itself and those who give the land would be allotted commercial and residential plots within the capital region.

The farmers raised several doubts and the chief minister clarified the farmers' doubts. He emphasized that for Amaravati to grow as a metropolitan city, it must be expansive. He explained the benefits that investment and an airport would bring to the city.

“Farmers expressed satisfaction with Chandrababu Naidu’s explanation,” sources said.

Naidu also asserted that Amaravati would be legally confirmed as the state capital through legislation in Parliament. Farmers urged for a law to be passed in Parliament officially confirming Amaravati as the capital.

The chief minister explained that until 2024, Hyderabad was the common capital, hence legislation could not be passed earlier. As there is no longer a common capital issue, legal status will now be given to Amaravati.

Naidu warmly invited farmers to actively participate in the rebuilding of the capital. A special gallery is being set up for capital farmers at the venue. He invited farmers to attend along with their family members.
