It appears Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is of the view that it is better to depend on the media which is supporting him, rather than on the political strategists.
Though these media houses – which are generally referred to as Yellow Media by Naidu’s political rivals – have been strongly backing the TDP in general and Naidu in particular right from the beginning, he did not depend on them for political strategies.
But it is learnt the TDP chief is now planning to take the help of the media houses to influence the public opinion and also identify the strong candidates for the party in the next assembly elections.
On Saturday, Naidu visited the office of popular Telugu television channel TV5 at Jubilee Hills along with followers.
He was accorded a rousing reception from chairman B R Naidu, managing director Ravindranath and director Surendranath.
The channel management also arranged Vedic pundits to welcome Naidu amidst changing of Vedic hymns and with purna kumbham.
Later, Naidu had an interaction with the editorial team of the channel for a long time. He also wished each and every member of the TV5 channel and sought their support to the TDP.
Sources said he might also visit other channels like ABN-Andhra Jyothy and Eenadu subsequently and hold discussions on the party strategies.
At the time of the formation of TDP, its founder-president and matinee idol N T Rama Rao had taken the help of Eenadu at every step, right from the selection of candidates to designing of the party’s campaign. Eenadu group chairman Ch Ramoji Rao openly declared his support to the TDP.
Now, Naidu is also said to be following the same strategy in taking the help of the yellow media to take his party to the grassroots level.
It will be interesting to see whether his strategy will work or flop.
