As expected, Jana Sena Party general secretary and popular Tollywood actor Konidela Nagendra Rao, popularly known as Nagababu, was elected unopposed as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of Andhra Pradesh under the MLAs’ quota on Thursday.
Nagababu, the elder brother of JSP president and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, received his election certificate from returning officer R Vanitha Rani in Vijayawada.
With his induction as an MLC, anticipation is high regarding his entry into the state cabinet led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Naidu had already assured that Nagababu would be included in the cabinet.
Apart from Nagababu, four other candidates were also elected unopposed as MLCs.
These include three Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidates - Beeda Ravichandra, B. Tirumala Naidu, and Kavali Greeshma Prasad - and one Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Somu Veerraju.
Since only five nominations were filed for the five available seats by March 10, the last date for nominations, all candidates were elected unopposed. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended on Thursday evening.
Similarly, in Telangana, all five candidates who filed nominations were also declared elected unopposed, as there were no other contestants.
Returning officer Upender Reddy confirmed the unanimous election of Addanki Dayakar, Kethavath Shankar Naik, and M. Vijayashanthi from the Congress, Nellikanti Satyam from the CPI, and Dasoju Sravan from the BRS.
