Minister wife shows authority, gets Naidu reprimand

Whenever a party comes to power, some of the newly-elected members of the state assembly tend to display their authority in their respective constituencies. Not just these members, even their family members want to display their power.

It was once again proved in the case of newly-elected TDP leader Madipalli Ram Prasad Reddy from Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh.

He is not only a first time MLA, but has also become a minister in the Chandrababu Naidu cabinet holding the portfolio of sports and youth affairs.

On Monday, Ram Prasad Reddy’s wife Haritha attended the pension distribution programme at Devagudipalle village of Chinnamandem mandal.

Actually, Haritha has no business to take part in the programme, as she is neither a minister nor an MLA; and was not even a local people’s representative.

She is no way connected to the TDP, but is just a minister’s wife. Yet, she took part in the official programme of the government.

Though the local police officials don’t need to follow any protocol towards her, they were present at the spot just because it was an official programme.

Yet, Haritha shouted at the police authorities for not sending the local sub-inspector of police in her convoy. When the sub-inspector arrived there finally, she pulled him up for turning up late and not coming there in uniform.

“Have you come to a marriage? Are you not in duty? Don’t you know that you have to be in the uniform?” she shouted at the SI.

She didn’t listen to him, even when he apologised to her and said he had in other meeting.

The entire conversation between Haritha and the SI went viral on social media and by evening, it came to the notice of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He called up Ram Prasad Reddy and sought an explanation from him.

Naidu said he would not tolerate if the minister or his family members behave rudely with the police or officials or even employees at the ground level. He warned him against repeating such rude talk with the government officials.

Ram Prasad Reddy apologised to the chief minister and said he would ensure that such instances would not recur.

Naidu told him that no TDP leader should behave in such a manner that would bring bad name to the government.
