Known for his theatrics and high-decibel agitations, Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday enacted a big drama in front of the Director General of Police at Mangalagiri in protest against the alleged attacks on TDP leaders Bonda Uma and Buddha Venkanna at Macherla in the morning.
While it was a typical case of a local political rivalry, Naidu sought to give a state-wide projection to impress upon the people that there was a law and order failure in the state and that the TDP leaders are being assaulted by the YSRC workers right in front of the police.
The attacks on the TDP leaders were definitely unavoidable and the protests of the party leaders also could be justified.
But being in the top position in the party, Naidu should have left it to the local leaders to organise protests. But, he chose to lead the protests himself to project as if it was a major law and order breakdown.
Naidu, along with Bonda Uma, Budha Venkanna and CPI State Secretary Ramakrishna squatted on the roads and raised slogans against Jagan Mohan Reddy.
They asked where is the guarantee for people's security when the ruling YCP leaders are making murder attempts on the unarmed opposition leaders who are going to complain at the Police station.
He alleged that it was a pre-meditated attack on the TDP leaders and advocate P Kishore at Macherla. He asked why Jagan and YSRC leaders were so afraid to conduct a free and fair elections when they are confident of winning 90 per cent of local bodies in these elections.
TDP leaders went to Macherla only to make a complaint to the local police about how TDP candidates were not being allowed to file nominations by YCRC goondas, he said.
Minister for Municipal Administration Botsa Satyanarayana alleged that the TDP leaders had been to Palanadu area not to console their party members but to show their criminal bent of mind.
He asked why they have gone there in 10 vehicles if not for creating unnecessary tension in the region.
He alleged that the TDP chief was utilizing the situation for political gain by trying to create unrest and disturb law and order across the state.
