Lokesh says no to re-entry of Amanchi into TDP

Lokesh says no to re-entry of Amanchi into TDP

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) high command on Wednesday thwarted former MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan's attempts to rejoin the party from the Chirala assembly constituency in Prakasam district.

Amanchi had sent a message to party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and General Secretary and IT Minister Nara Lokesh through State Minister for Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar and other TDP leaders in the district, seeking to re-enter the party.

However, sources say Lokesh outrightly rejected his attempts, stating there is no place for leaders who had behaved arrogantly against TDP members over the last five years when he was in the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and had used abusive language against Naidu and Lokesh.

Particularly, Amanchi had been creating troubles for TDP leader Madduluri Mala Kondaiah, who contested the elections from Chirala and won against YSRCP candidate Karanam Venkatesh and Amanchi, who ran on a Congress ticket.

“Now that he has been politically isolated, Amanchi wants to regain his lost glory by returning to the TDP. If he is allowed, he will once again dominate Chirala politics and weaken the sitting MLA Mala Kondaiah. He will not be allowed into the party again,” Lokesh reportedly told party leaders.

Just before the assembly elections, Amanchi resigned from the YSRCP after being denied a ticket by party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for Chirala.

The ticket was given to Karanam Venkatesh, son of then-sitting MLA Karanam Balaram Krishnamurthy, who defected from the TDP after the 2019 elections.

Amanchi later joined the Congress and contested the elections from Chirala on a Congress ticket. He had initially considered running as an independent but preferred to have a party affiliation before entering the fray.

Amanchi, who was elected as an MLA from Chirala in 2014, quit the TDP just before the 2019 elections. He joined the YSRCP and contested on its ticket from Chirala but lost to Karanam Balaram, who ran on the TDP ticket.

However, with Karanam Balaram joining the YSRCP along with his son Venkatesh later, Amanchi lost his influence in party activities in Chirala.

Amanchi, who claims to be a self-made leader, first won as an MLA in 2009 on a Congress ticket. In 2014, he won as an independent but soon shifted his loyalties to the TDP. He was known to be a loyalist to former united Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah.
