Liquor scam: SIT begins raids on Raj Kasireddy

Liquor scam: SIT begins raids on Raj Kasireddy

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh, which is conducting a probe into the liquor scam that allegedly took place during the YSRCP government's tenure, conducted raids at the residences and offices of Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy, also known as Raj Kasireddy, on Monday.

Raj Kasireddy, who is facing allegations of having acted as a key representative of top leaders of the then-government in the scam, however, has been absconding and there are rumours that he had already left for the US last week.

According to reports, searches are being carried out at three different locations in Hyderabad by SIT officials.

Despite being served notices thrice so far, Raj Kasireddy has failed to appear for questioning and is currently absconding.

SIT had issued consecutive notices on March 28 and 29, asking him to appear for inquiry, but he ignored them.

Challenging the SIT notices in the high court, Raj Kasireddy demanded to know on what grounds the notices were issued. The court, however, made it clear that it would not intervene in the matter.

Following court directions, the SIT issued a third notice on April 5, asking him to appear for questioning on April 9. But he failed to do so again, allegedly switching off his phones and going into hiding.

In this context, the SIT has intensified its actions, conducting raids on Raj Kasireddy’s properties in Hyderabad. Officials believe that questioning him could bring crucial details about the scam to light.

The SIT is also probing the alleged involvement of police officials from the Excise Department in connection with the case.
