When Telugu Desam Party was in power, former assembly speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao was acting like a monarch in Narsaraopet and its surroundings in Guntur district.
Extortions, land grabbing and settlements by Kodela’s family members were order of the day.
There had been several allegations particularly by Kodela’s son Sivaram and daughter Vijayalakshmi, who used to take advantage of their father’s position and indulged in large scale irregularities.
If anybody had given any money to Kodela’s family, it would be a Herculean Task to recover the money.
One had to succumb to the pressure tactics of Kodela’s family members and if anybody revolted and questioned their authority, he would have to be behind the bars in false cases or subject to physical attacks.
Now, the situation has changed, after the TDP lost power.
The same family members of Kodela, who once used to keep the people affected by their hegemony outside the gate, are requesting the same people for compromises.
Soon after the change in government, hundreds of people who were hit hard by the aggression of Kodela family knocked the doors of the police stations along with evidences.
Several criminal cases were booked in various police stations against them.
Kodela’s son Shivaram and daughter Vijayalakshmi moved the courts seeking anticipatory bails, but the courts rejected their plea. As a result, they reportedly went absconding.
Now, they are said to be desperate to enter into a compromise with the victims by returning the money extorted from them.
In a latest episode, Kodela’s daughter, who had been evading payments to surgical shop owner in the past, called him and repaid his dues completely.
The shop belongs to Challa Ravindra Reddy from Kothur village of Sathupalli mandal in Khammam district of Telangana.
Reddy supplied surgical cotton worth Rs 15 lakh to Vijayalakshmi’s company in the past.
Instead of settling his bill, she had been threatening him when he called her several times. Three days ago, Reddy lodged a complaint with Two Town police of Guntur.
Since the courts, too, had been acting tough against Kodela family, Vijayalakshmi realized that she cannot escape from the case. Having no other option, she returned money of Rs 14.40 lakh through two cheques to Reddy.
It may be mentioned that Kodela himself lost his reputation and respect completely in the furniture theft case.
The TDP leaders and his own community people are refusing to come to their rescue. At the same time, the police have set the stage for their arrest.
With his theft case surfacing in the police inquiry, Kodela started claiming that he had already written to the assembly staff to take back the furniture.
He also expressed his willingness to pay the money for the value of the furniture.
