The confrontation between Andhra Pradesh civil supplies minister Kodali Venkateshwar Rao alias Nani and state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has reached a new high.
Known for his foul-mouth nature, Kodali Nani made some objectionable comments against Nimmagadda during his press conference on Friday morning. And within hours, the SEC served a notice on him, seeking an explanation.
Though Nani sent his explanation stating that he had all respect for the election commission, he did not specifically expressed regrets towards Nimmagadda.
Enraged at this, the SEC issued orders restricting Nani from speaking to media till the electioneering is over.
On Saturday morning, Nimmagadda took serious note of Nani’s comments that he would respect the SEC as an institution and would not withdraw his personal comments against Nimmagadda.
He directed Krishna district superintendent of police to file criminal cases against Nani under Sections 504, 505 (1) (c) and 506 of Indian Penal Code for threatening the SEC and violating the election model code of conduct.
Though SP has not yet booked the case, Nani moved the high court challenging the Nimmagadda orders. He is also contemplating filing a privilege notice against the SEC with speaker Tammineni Sitaram.
The Speaker has referred the matter to the privileges committee headed by YSRC legislator Kakani Goverdhan Reddy, who is already looking into two more privilege notices issued by ministers Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and Botsa Satyanarayana.
Now, the privileges committee is planning to serve notices on Nimmagadda in a day or two, asking him to appear before the committee or assembly for interrogation.
