With TDP wiped out in both the Telugu States, TRS chief and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao is learnt to be making serious efforts to takeover NTR Trust Bhavan, the glorious tall and imposing TDP headquarters at Banjara Hills Road No.2 in Hyderabad.
KCR wiped out TDP from Telangana after formation of Telangana State in 2014, while YSRCP buried TDP few kilometres deep in Andhra in recent Assembly polls by restricting TDP to just 23 seats out of 175.
With the very very existense of TDP in question in both the states, KCR feels that the time is right to deal a deadly blow to Chandrababu Naidu, by taking over NTR Trust Bhavan now, marring all chances of any recovery of TDP in future.
NTR Trust Bhavan has been wearing a deserted look since Naidu shifted his base to Amaravathi after his name surfaced in 'cash for vote' scam in Telangana MLC polls in May 2015.
Following this, 12 out of the 15 TDP MLAs defected into TRS due to which TDP lost its ground in Telangana. In 2018 Assembly polls, TDP won just 2 seats in Telangana, of which one MLA already joined TRS.
The costly government plot belonging to HUDA to build NTR Trust Bhavan was leased out to TDP when Chandrababu was CM of Undivided AP in April 1997 for 30 years for a nominal lease amount of Rs 90,000 per year.
The lease period will expire in 2027 but TRS government wants to cancel the lease and take back the plot and pay compensation to TDP for building.
The development comes amid reports of Naidu planning to lease out this building to an IT company as TDP has no activity in TS. There is huge demand for this building as it is located in prime locality in Hyderabad.
The building was built at a cost of Rs 5 crore two decades ago.
The building was the centre of attraction when Naidu ruled AP from 1995 to 2004, with the premises buzzing with hectic activity with the visit of hundreds of leaders and thousands of party activists, thousands of cars and other vehicles parked there every day.
Even when Naidu was in Opposition from 2004 to 2014, the building did not lose its charm.
But with bifurcation of state, the 'bad time' for TDP and this building has begun and with TDP suffering humiliating defeat even in AP in recent Assembly polls, the situation turned from bad to worse.
At one point, when KCR was in TDP, he used to visit this building almost every day, waited for Naidu's appointment for hours and used to take training classes for TDP cadre as per Naidu's directions.
Now the same KCR is preparing ground to vanish NTR Trust Bhavan from Hyderabad.
