KCR defends Rahul Gandhi to attack BJP

In a surprising development, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday came to the defence of former Congress president and MP Rahul Gandhi and fired at the Bharatiya Janata Party in general and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular.

Addressing a public meeting at Raigir in Yadadri Bhongir district, KCR took strong exception to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for making a derogatory statement saying whether Rahul Gandhi was born to his father Rajiv Gandhi or not.

KCR pointed out that Rahul Gandhi’s father and grandmother Indira Gandhi had sacrificed their lives for the country and his grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru, served the country as the first Prime Minister.

“I am no way connected to Rahul Gandhi, but he is a responsible MP. He has every right to question the Narendra Modi government on people’s issues. How can the Assam chief minister make such derogatory comments against him?” he asked.

The chief minister said he was very much anguished at the comments made by Himanta Biswa Sarma against Rahul Gandhi.

“I was in tears on listening to those comments. It was humiliating,” he said.

Is it the “dharma” what Modi is preaching to the people? Is it the culture of the BJP?” KCR asked and demanded that Sarma be immediately be sacked from the chief minister’s post.

The chief minister alleged that the BJP was dividing the nation on communal lines by whipping up religious passions.

Referring to the latest controversy on hijab issue in Karnataka, he said the BJP was damaging the reputation of Bengaluru, which was known as Silicon Valley of India.

“What is happening in Bengaluru? The BJP mob has been targeting innocent Muslim girls for following their religious practoces. The BJP is creating unrest in the city and damaging its reputation. It wants to make the Silicon Valley of India into another Kashmir valley,” he alleged.

He said investments would flow into any state if there was law and order and a peaceful investment climate.

“Does anybody invest in strife-torn Afghanistan? If BJP creates similar communal unrest in any part of the country, who will put in any money on any industry?” KCR asked.
