Former minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Andhra Pradesh Kanna Lakshminarayana, who created ripples by launching a tirade against party president Somu Veerraju on Wednesday, has dropped his plans to quit the party, for the time being.
Lakshminarayana, who headed the Andhra BJP till a couple of years ago, is understood to have received a call from the top party bosses in Delhi, who requested him not to make it a big issue.
“We have come across the reports of your comments on the developments in the party. We shall take your arguments into consideration and act appropriately. Till such time, please don’t speak to media on any party-related issue,” a senior BJP leader from Delhi told Kanna.
The former minister said he would abide by the party directions and would refrain from making any further comments on the issue.
Kanna, who is a strong supporter of Jana Sena Party president and actor Pawan Kalyan, blamed it on Somu Veerraju for the widening gap between Jana Sena and BJP in the state. He alleged that state leadership headed by Veerraju failed to maintain friendly relationship with Pawan Kalyan.
“The whole problem in the state BJP is with Somu Veeerraju. He has become the sole authority in the party and nobody else knows what is happening in the party at all. It is time the BJP national leadership focus on strengthening the party in the state,” Kanna said.
Soon after Kanna’s comments, there were big debates in the media stating that he might be planning to quit the party.
Some reports said Kanna is planning to hold a meeting of his supporters and other important leaders of the party on Thursday and call it quits to the party.
A couple of channels also aired the reports that Kanna is in touch with Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and might jump into the yellow party. Some others said he might join hands with Pawan Kalyan.
But for now, Kanna is not taking any such decision, following a call from Delhi. He might wait for a few days and then take a call.
