Jogaian seeks fast-forward of CBI case against Jagan

It has been nearly 13 years since the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) began probing the quid pro quo case against YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, yet the case has seen little progress so far.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju had attempted to expedite the investigation and trial by requesting that the case be transferred to another state, but the Supreme Court rejected his plea.

Now, prominent Kapu leader and former MP Chegondi Harirama Jogaiah, also from Narasapuram, has filed a petition in the High Court, seeking speedy trials of the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases against Jagan.

Following the Supreme Court's directions, a special bench of the Telangana High Court has been hearing cases involving public representatives, including Jagan.

On Friday, the High Court reviewed the status of these cases and merged Jogaiah’s Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with the ongoing proceedings.

During the hearing, the Additional Advocate General (AAG) informed the court that over 309 cases against public representatives are pending across various courts in the state.

The AAG requested additional time to file a counter affidavit regarding the progress of these cases.

However, the High Court emphasized that it had already issued directives for the speedy trial of such cases.

It instructed the AAG to submit a comprehensive progress report on all pending cases by March 31. The special bench has been given four weeks to conduct further hearings.
