Former minister and Kapu leader Chegondi Harirama Jogaiah, who has been desperately trying to draw the attention of Jana Sena Party chief and power star Pawan Kalyan all these days finally succeeded in his attempts.
Jogaiah, who undertook fast unto death on Sunday night demanding implementation of five per cent reservation for Kapus under Economically Backward Classes quota, withdrew it in the evening, following a call from Pawan Kalyan.
The Jana Sena chief spoke to Jogaiah, who was admitted to Eluru government hospital in the morning and requested him to call off the fast saying it would not be wise for him to continue the fast in view of the health conditions.
He told the veteran Kapu leader that he would take up the Kapu reservation issue as an election plank and would press for it if the party comes to power in the next elections.
Jogaiah, who was waiting for such an assurance from Pawan, called off the fast. Obviously, he got an assurance from the power star that the party would make use of the services of Jogaiah in the next elections.
Jogaiah, who launched the indefinite fast at his residence in Palakollu on Sunday night after his deadline given to the Jagan Mohan Reddy government on Kapu reservations expired on Saturday.
But the police immediately swooped on his residence and requested him to drop his plan in view of his age and health. But when he refused to budge, the police immediately shifted him to the government hospital in Eluru.
He continued his fast in the hospital till evening. The police did not allow his son Surya Prakash, Jana Sena and TDP leaders into the hospital. But when Pawan Kalyan called up Jogaiah in the evening, he withdrew the fast.
The Jana Sena chief demanded that the Jagan government should hold talks with Jogaiah and consider his demand. He said his party would fight for the genuine demand of the former minister.
