Jogaiah kicks up Kapu quota issue again!

Veteran Kapu leader and former MP Chegondi Harirama Jogaiah, who shot into limelight by writing a series of letters to Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan criticising the latter’s alliance with the Telugu Desam Party, is back in the action again.

On Saturday, Jogaiah dashed off a letter again, this time to both Pawan Kalyan and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Pawan Kalyan, raking up the issue of reservations to Kapu community, which was almost dumped in the dustbin by the previous Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

In his letter, Jogaiah demanded that the newly-formed NDA government in the state should extend reservations to Kapus in the education and employment sectors, at least under Economically Weaker Sections, if not under the OBC quota.

Stating that the Kapus have been fighting for reservations in the education and the employment right from the days of the British regime, the former MP, who runs Kapu-Balija Samkshema Sena, said the community has been waging agitations for several years in the Independent India.

He pointed out that the previous TDP government headed by Naidu issued orders implementing five percent reservations to Kapus out of 10% quota for EWS, but the previous Jagan Mohan Reddy government had stopped this quota for Kapus, on the pretext that the issue was in the hands of the Centre.

He reminded that the Kapus had even moved the state high court for restoration of the reservation under EWS category, but the YSRCP government filed a counter opposing the same.

Now that the TDP is back to power, the Kapus are hopeful that they would get the reservations.

“We request you to restore the five percent quota for Kapus under EWS category at the earliest,” he said.
