Senior TDP leader and former MLA of Tadipatri assembly constituency in Anantapur district J C Prabhakar Reddy got the bail at last in connection with a case filed under the SC/ST Act for abusing a Dalit police officer.
Prabhakar Reddy, who had been lodged in Kadapa jail at present, tested positive for Covid-19. In view of his health condition, his lawyers made an appeal in the Anantapur court seeking a bail for him.
The court granted a conditional bail to Prabhakar Reddy on health grounds.
The TDP leaders have been alleging that he was lodged in Kadapa jail knowing fully well that the jail inmates were suffering from Covid.
On Tuesday, as many as 317 prisoners tested positive for Covid-19, including Prabhakar Reddy.
It may be mentioned that on August 7, Prabhakar Reddy was arrested by the Anantapur police within hours of his release from Kadapa central jail along with his son Asmith Reddy on obtaining bail in the transport scam case.
The Anantapur police had booked fresh cases against Prabhakar Reddy and his son under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code and also under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act for obstructing the duties of a police officer and abusing him in filthy language at the Tadipatri checkpost late on Thursday night.
The Kadapa police also filed cases against the father-son duo under Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, for violating the Covid-19 at the Kadapa central jail, where he tried to take out a huge procession of the TDP workers and followers.
The police did not give them permission to JC to go in a convoy of vehicles.
