Jagan's Delhi tour: Political or official?

Jagan's Delhi tour: Political or official?

The sudden decision of YSRCP president and Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to leave for Delhi on a two-day trip on Tuesday has generated an interesting debate on the purpose of his sudden tour.

In fact, he was supposed to take 3 pm special flight to reach Delhi by 5 pm, but he got it advanced and would reach Delhi by 3.45 pm.

Sources said Jagan got an appointment with Union home minister Amit Shah at 4 pm and hence, he had to advance the schedule.

Jagan is also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Health Minister Harshvardhan, though there is no official confirmation.

According to sources, the purpose of Jagan’s Delhi visit is more of political rather than official, though he would be submitting representations to the Centre on clearance to the three capitals bill, seeking additional finances to offset revenue deficit, more funds for Polavaram project, approval to the Disha Act etc.

However, Jagan is expected to bring to the notice of the Centre as to how his government has been facing troubles from judiciary with the Telugu Desam Party-sponsored litigants filing PILs in the high court. There is a talk that he might seek transfer of some of the judges in the high court.

At the same time, Jagan is likely to request the Centre to order a CBI inquiry into the alleged Amaravati scandal and also AP Fibernet scam, so that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh Naidu are thrown behind the bars at the earliest.

The chief minister made quite a few attempts in the past to meet Amit Shah in the last one year. On June 2, also he made an attempt to go to Delhi but cancelled his scheduled trip at the eleventh hour.

Since the YSRC has been extending all the support to the Modi government on crucial issues, there is every possibility that Jagan might get positive response from the Delhi bosses this time!
