YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has instructed his party MPs to raise key state-related issues in both Houses of Parliament, emphasizing that there should be no compromise on matters concerning Andhra Pradesh’s interests.
The meeting focused on several critical topics, including the Polavaram Project’s height, the privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, support prices for chili farmers, the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, the privatization of new medical colleges in the state, and constituency delimitation, among others.
Jagan instructed YSRCP MPs to strongly oppose the privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, calling it a hard-earned asset of Andhra Pradesh, achieved through significant sacrifices. He urged them to exert pressure on the central government to prevent privatization.
On constituency delimitation, Jagan asked MPs to demand clarity from the Centre in Parliament, particularly amid concerns that southern states might not gain seats proportionally compared to northern states.
Regarding ‘One Nation, One Election,’ he directed the MPs to advocate for ballot voting over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) if simultaneous elections are implemented, citing examples of developed nations reverting to ballots after initially using EVMs.
Jagan also raised concerns about the Chandrababu Naidu-led state government’s alleged attempts to privatize newly established medical colleges. These colleges were originally initiated by the YSRCP government to make medical education accessible to the poor and enhance healthcare across all districts.
He urged MPs to oppose privatization efforts in Parliament, emphasizing that these institutions were built to serve underprivileged communities, and privatization would undermine their intended purpose.
