Jagan upset with Nimmagadda on local polls

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed his deep anguish and unhappiness over the non-completion of the process for the conduct of mandal parishad and zilla parishad elections before this month end.

Jagan was reacting to the statement issued by state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar that he won’t be able to complete the process for MPTC and ZPTC elections due to the mandatory four-week period for the enforcement of model code of conduct.

Since the high court has refused to interfere in the election process, on the grounds that it was the prerogative of the SEC to decide the poll schedule, Jagan held a meeting with senior officials to discuss how to go about the same.

The chief minister there were only six days left for the completion of the process of MPTC and ZPTC polls.

“If the elections are held at the earliest, the government could focus on the vaccination process. But it is unfortunate that they are not being held now,” he said.

He said it was quite uncertain when the polls would be over and it had left the the government machinery in dilemma.

“It is causing a lot of anguish. In any case, the authorities expedite the vaccination process and take it up like a yagna to save people’s lives,” he said.

Jagan directed the officials to start the vaccination process in urban areas from March 29 as civic polls were over and similarly take up as a pilot project in rural areas limiting to two villages per day in each mandal by working four days a week.
