Jagan to oppose NDA in Rajya Sabha?

Jagan to oppose NDA in Rajya Sabha?

All these days, YSR Congress party led by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has been adopting a soft stand towards the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre led by Bharatiya Janata Party.

Even after the BJP joined hands with the Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena Party to win the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, the YSRCP announced that it would extend issue-based support to the NDA government.

During the recent election of the Lok Sabha speaker, too, the YSRCP extended support to the BJP after a request from the party. However, the Speaker was elected by voice vote, without actually needing the support of the YSRCP.

However, it is learnt Jagan has now decided to oppose the NDA government’s decisions openly. Apparently, the YSRCP chief realised that there is no point in supporting the BJP as there is no reciprocation from the latter. On the other hand, it is creating a confusion of sorts among the party cadre.

Secondly, Jagan has also realised that the BJP and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi are gradually losing their hold in the country and going by the mood of the nation, it is unlikely that Modi will come back to power again in the next general elections.

So, Jagan might have thought it would be futile to pamper the BJP or the NDA and better to remain neutral at the Centre. He is expected to disclose his mind during the YSRCP parliamentary party meeting to be held on Saturday.

Sources said Jagan would ask his party MPs in Rajya Sabha not to extend support to any bills introduced by the BJP, which is falling short of majority mark in the upper house. In Lok Sabha, too, the YSRCP which has four MPs, would oppose the NDA, sources said.
