Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to leave for New Delhi once again some time next week to have a meeting with PM Narendra Modi, according to reports in a section of media.
During his recent visit to New Delhi to meet Union home minister Amit Shah and others in the last week of September, the chief minister reportedly sought an appointment with the Prime Minister. Apparently, there was an assurance from the PMO that the meeting would be scheduled shortly.
According to the latest reports, there was an indication from the PMO that Jagan might get an appointment with the Modi in the second week of October. Naturally, this talk has generated a lot of speculations.
While there is nothing much for Jagan to represent to the Prime Minister on the state’s issues, because the routine representations were already given to Amit Shah during the recent visit.
The chief minister also met Union water resources minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat to discuss release of funds for Polavaram, while his finance minister Buggana Rajendranath had a meeting with finance minister Niramala Sitaraman to seek dues under revenue deficit and GST compensation.
So, Jagan’s meeting with Modi is expected to be purely personal and political.
In all probability, the talk of YSRC joining the National Democratic Alliance might come up in the meeting. If it materialises, it is going to be a big political development.
If the deal is struck, Jagan might seek some favours including the CBI inquiry into Amaravati land scam and AP Fibernet scam etc., so that he would not face any political opposition in the state in the coming years.
