Jagan to meet high court CJ: What's up?

The proposed meeting of YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister with state high court chief justice Prashant Kumar Mishra on Monday evening has raised many eyebrows in the media.

Jagan has sought an appointment with Justice Mishra at the state government guest house in the evening. The meeting is expected to last a couple of hours, sources in the CMO said.

This is not the first time that Jagan will be meeting the chief justice – he had done it in the past on various official functions, including the public felicitation to Chief Justice of India N V Ramana in Vijayawada last year.

But it is the first time that the chief minister will be meeting the chief justice personally. So, what they would discuss at this one-on-one meeting has naturally led to a lot of speculations in the media.

Sources said Jagan is expected to discuss with Justice Mishra on the recent high court judgement on the three capitals, particularly the deadline set by the court on the completion of infrastructure in Amaravati.

He might explain to the CJI on the financial constraints of the state government and tell him that it is not possible to complete the structures within six months. He might ask for removal of this time limit for taking up the works.

The chief minister would also brief the CJ on the steps being taken by the government for completion of judicial infrastructure including the new building, filling up of vacancies in the high court and provision of other facilities to the high court judges.

The chief minister might also discuss with the CJ on the agenda for the meeting to be held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief justice of India N V Ramana with all the chief ministers and high court chief justices in New Delhi on April 29.

In any case, the meeting has definitely evinced a lot of curiosity in the people.
