It looks like YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is following the latest model adopted by his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao in rationalization of land ownership by digitizing the land records.
A decision to this effect was taken at the cabinet meeting held by Jagan in the state secretariat on Thursday. If KCR has named the concept as “Dharani,” the Andhra chief minister has named it as: ‘YSR Jagananna Saswatha Bhoomi Hakku-Bhoomi Rakshana.”
According to the cabinet decision, the state government will take up a comprehensive land survey from January 1, as was done in Telangana.
In order to provide permanent land ownership, every inch of the land in the State will be resurveyed using the latest technology like a drones.
In all 4500 survey teams and 15,000 surveyors will be involved in this land survey at an estimated expenditure of about Rs 1000 crore.
The State would mark the boundaries, issue passbooks to landowners and further set up a mobile court to resolve the land disputes on the spot.
“Such a survey is overdue and will be held in the state after a gap of over 100 years,” state minister for agriculture K Kanna Babu said.
The concept of Dharani took off in Telangana last week and all the agriculture and non-agriculture properties were surveyed and are now being digitized.
However, the state high court has objected to collection of data of individuals during the survey and one would only hope Jagan will take enough care in this, so that it will land in the courts once again.
