YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is said to be unhappy with the way his media managers have not been able to counter the opposition’s attack on the government on various policy decisions.
While the publicity wing of the CMO has been doing its job of disseminating the information to the media with regard to various decisions being taken by the government, there have been regular press conferences by the ministers and YSR Congress spokespersons to counter-attack the opposition criticism.
Yet, Jagan is said to have felt that the government’s version and the party’s version are not reaching the people effectively except in his own media house Sakshi, compared to the statements and comments of opposition leaders which are getting big coverage, due to lack of proper counter-attacking by the government on time.
For example, the media, particularly the national media, gave a big coverage to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s tweet that the state government had spent around Rs 15.65 crore for sprucing up Jagan’s official residence at Tadepalli, including widening of the road to his house.
However, there was no counter-attack from either the government or the party to Naidu’s criticism. So, only one-sided view was carried in the media.
So, Jagan is learnt to have decided to strengthen the social media and digital media wing of the government, so that there would be a strong mechanism to not only counter the opposition view, but also present the government’s decisions in simple and effective manner.
He is understood to have suggested his media managers to study how the Bharatiya Janata Party and the NDA government at the Centre are running their social media wings which do not lose a single minute to highlight the government’s decisions through Twitter and Facebook instantly.
“The YSRC government can devise its own social media mechanism for the effective communication with the people directly,” he suggested.
