Jagan to announce candidates at YSRC plenary?

If the reports doing rounds in the YSR Congress party circles are to be believed, party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy might make an announcement on the party candidates contesting the next elections at the party plenary to be held next month.

The plenary will be held between Vijayawada and Guntur on July 8 and 9 and Jagan is expected to make some crucial announcements there.

Though Jagan will not declare whether there would be early elections in the state or not, he will give an indirect indication to that effect by announcing the candidates.

“In fact, he will not release the list of candidates for the next elections, but he will declare who is not going to get the tickets because of their poor performance. That will be an indirect announcement of the candidates’ list,” a party source said.

Apparently, the chief minister is of the view that if the candidates get clarity about their tickets, they would be focussing on nurturing their constituencies from now on, so that they would be ready to face the elections whenever they are held.

The YSRC supremo will also get clarity on the stand taken by the MLAs, who would be denied the tickets. If they can work for the party, it is well and good; but if the intelligence reports indicate that they would sabotage the party in the next elections, action could be taken against them.

In all probability, the plenary would provide a clue as to whether Jagan will go for early elections or as per schedule. He would also entrust key responsibilities to the party leaders and make them active till the elections.

“The recent Gadapa Gadapaku Prabhutvam and Samajika Nyaya Bheri programmes have given some understanding to Jagan as to what his party’s strengths and weaknesses are and to what extent the TDP has gained ground. These issues would be discussed at the plenary,” party sources added.
