Jagan tarnished Andhra image, says Sharmila

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila who has been constantly targeting her brother and YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has found yet another opportunity to attack him.

Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Sharmila launched a scathing attack on her brother, accusing him of being involved in a massive corruption scandal linked to industrialist Gautam Adani and tarnishing the image of Andhra Pradesh.

“The US agencies have filed charges against Gautam Adani and others for corruption. Adani entered into agreements in India and allegedly bribed the chief ministers of a few states,” she said.

She said the US authorities, though had not named Jagan, clearly indicted that he had received Rs 1,750 crore in bribes.

“The indictment says Rs 1,750 crore was given to a senior official in Andhra Pradesh who was heading the state from May 2019 to June 2014. The evidence clearly points to Jagan Mohan Reddy as the recipient," Sharmila stated.

Sharmila’s remarks further escalate her rivalry with Jagan, as she accused him of compromising the state’s integrity for personal gain.

Investigations by the American agencies revealed that Adani paid a total of Rs 2,100 crore in bribes, with Rs 1,750 crore traced back to Andhra Pradesh, she said.

“These agencies have pressed charges based on concrete evidence. This information about Adani only came to light because of their investigation; otherwise, it would have remained hidden," Sharmila added.

Sharmila’s latest accusations are likely to stir controversy in state politics, as Jagan’s rivals look to capitalize on the allegations and attack him politically.
