Jagan-Sharmila feud: YSRCP drags Naidu's brother!

Jagan-Sharmila feud: YSRCP drags Naidu's brother!

The property dispute between YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister Y S Sharmila is purely an internal family matter.

Of course, it also has its own political twists, as Jagan openly declared that he had no love lost for Sharmila for taking a completely anti-stand against him in politics.

Now that the family dispute has become a nationwide news, the YSRCP has been desperately trying to smear political colour to it, hoping that it would not only put an end to the negative campaign against Jagan on social media, but also give him some political mileage.

So, Jagan, in his statement, sought to blame Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for being the brain behind the transfer of his company shares in the name of Sharmila and mother Vijayamma.

He also accused Sharmila of falling into the trap of Naidu and trying to get his bail cancelled in the ongoing CBI and ED cases against him.

“There are family disputes in every family, including that of Naidu. Why should the TDP social media target me?” he asked.

On behalf of Jagan, the YSRCP also jumped into action to defend him.

Senior YSRCP leader and former minister Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) also came down heavily on Sharmila for falling in the trap of Naidu and getting the shares of Saraswati power company transferred on her mother Vijayamma's name, in violation of the court's restrictions.

Stating that the TDP was stirring unnecessary controversies about Jagan's family, Nani dragged Naidu’s brother Nara Ramamurthy Naidu into the controversy.

He said Ramamurthy Naidu also revolted against Naidu, but the latter had silenced his brother through their mother.

Nani also questioned whether Chandrababu Naidu had ever shared his wealth with his brother, unlike Jagan, who had distributed assets to his sister even after their father's death.

He criticized Chandrababu for not sharing any of his wealth with his family.

It is a fact that Ramamurthy Naidu was also a very active leader in the TDP and had been an MLA from Chandragiri assembly constituency between 1994 and 1999.

However, he lost the assembly elections in 1999 in the hands of Galla Aruna Kumari, though Naidu came to power again.

Subsequently, Naidu started sidelining Ramamurthy Naidu, apparently realising that the latter was becoming extra constitutional authority in the party. In 2001, he revolted against the party and Naidu suspended his followers.

However, there were reports in October 2003 that Naidu’s mother attempted to bring about a rapprochement between the brothers and even persuaded Ramamurthy to call on Naidu, who had then escaped an assassination attempt by the Naxalites through bomb explosion at Alipiri.

But Ramamurthy Naidu did not do that and in December 2003, he resigned from the TDP and joined the Congress. However, he did not get any recognition in the Congress led by Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who preferred Galla Aruna to Ramamurthy Naidu.

As a result, he returned to his elder brother again in 2006 and Naidu welcomed him into the party. Since then, both the brothers enjoyed good relations, but Ramamurthy Naidu suffered serious ill-health and is now said to be suffering from Alzheimers.

His son Nara Rohit is into films and got married recently. And whenever Naidu goes to Naravaripalli, he calls on his younger brother, who is ailing. There have been no reports of any family disputes or property disputes in Nara family.
