Jagan scores a point as APERC clears SECI power!

The electricity tariff order released by the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) a couple of days ago has provided some advantage to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, as it did not propose any increase in power tariffs for consumers.

However, more than Naidu, the biggest beneficiary seems to be YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has scored a political advantage over Naidu.

The regulatory commission has endorsed the agreement signed by Jagan's previous government with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)—a deal in which Adani Energy has a major stake—for the purchase of 7,000 MW of solar power.

In a statement on Saturday, the YSRCP claimed that APERC’s clearance of the SECI power deal proved that the bribery allegations spread by the "Yellow Media" were baseless.

“The Power Sale Agreement (PSA) was a transparent deal between the AP Government, DISCOMs, and SECI, a Central Government entity, with no third-party involvement. The power purchase cost of ₹2.49/unit is the lowest in history, along with additional savings of ₹1.98/unit from waived interstate transmission charges,” the YSRCP said, quoting the APERC order.

The party further reiterated that this "smart energy deal" will save a massive ₹1.10 lakh crore over 25 years, benefiting the state’s economy and people.

“Despite this landmark achievement, Yellow Media and Chandrababu Naidu’s camp continue to spread falsehoods to mislead the public,” the YSRCP stated.
