With YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday laying foundation stone for the construction of houses for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the R5 Zone in Amaravati, it is now clear that the government wants to develop a residential township in the present capital region.
As per the chief minister’s plan, more than 50,000 houses for the weaker sections will come up in the present capital region under Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu programme and in the coming days, permission would be given for more houses for the poor.
Subsequently, more areas would be converted into housing colonies, as the government would like to auction the plots for the middle class housing programmes and other real estate ventures.
“So, apart from the plots allotted to the Amaravati farmers as per the agreement signed with AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), the rest of the area would be developed into plots and auctioned for both residential and commercial activity. Ultimately, it will turn Amaravati a residential township with commercial facilities,” sources said.
This would mean, the original plan of Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu of developing Amaravati into a world-class capital city will be dumped altogether.
The nine theme cities -- the Government city, Justice city, Finance city, Education & knowledge city, Health city, Sports city, Cultural city, Electronics city and Tourism city – will be replaced by weaker section houses, schools, health centres, Anganwadi centres, libraries, public parks, agriculture market yards, fruit markets, temples, churches and mosques.
That is what Jagan meant by saying that Amaravati belongs to everyone, not just the rich and these are not just houses, but instruments of social justice.
He wants to complete the houses in Amaravati by Sankranti 2024 spending Rs 2,000 crore, irrespective of the help from the Centre, so that it would fetch huge mileage for him in the next elections.
