Jagan moves HC challenging CBI court order!

After facing a setback in the CBI special court which refused to give him exemption from personal appearances in the court in connection with the quid pro quo cases pending against him, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy approached the high court on Monday.

Jagan filed a petition in the high court challenging the CBI court order. He said as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, he had to discharge his official duties and as such, he would not be in a position to attend the courts personally in the cases pending against him.

Since the CBI court is refusing to give him exemption, he said he was forced to move the high court. He requested that his co-accused from Jagathi Publications be allowed to appear on his behalf in the ED cases.

However, the high court had earlier dismissed a similar petition of the chief minister, stating that it was the CBI court which should take a call. Now, he is trying his luck again.

Last Friday, the CBI court expressed anger over Jagan’s petitions seeking permission every week.

It dismissed the petition seeking exemption from personal appearances in connection with hearing on the five charge sheets filed by the ED with regard to alleged money laundering cases.

The judge commented that Jagan cannot continuously seek exemptions from court appearances.

It ruled that Jagan should compulsorily appear before it for the next hearing on January 31 and if he failed to so, he would be constrained to pass “appropriate orders.”

On January 3, the court gave a similar order, dismissing his petition seeking exemption from personal appearances in the court in connection with the CBI cases. As a result, Jagan was forced to attend the court in Hyderabad on January 10.
